Orchitime®: Spring is the best period to repot your orchids!
Although we repot all year long due to the amount of plants we grow, the beginning of spring is by far the best time of the year to repot your orchids and what better to use than our Orchitime® bark!
Orchitime® bark is a high quality steamed bark free of weeds and insects which is sourced in southern Europe (as opposed to similar bark that is transported from the other side of the world, after all we have to consider our ecological footprint!) and available in 2 sizes: 8-10 mm and 12-20 mm at a very competitive price.
In our greenhouse we use the Orchitime® 8-10 mm bark for most of our Dendrobiums, Draculas, Gongoras, Masdevallias, Paphiopedilums, Phalaenopsis, Phragmipediums, Sarcochilus and Stanhopeas and the Orchitime® 12-20 mm bark especially for Barkerias, Brassias, Cattleyas, Cymbidiums, Tolumnias, and Vandas.
A general golden rule for us is to look at root thickness: for fine roots use the 8-10 mm size, for thick roots use the 12-20 mm size.
Since last year we've abandoned our famous 3-MIX potting substrate (bark, charcoal and sphagnum moss) in favour of our new bark and have started repotting all our plants using Orchitime® with excellent results.
And because you only want the best for your plants, remember to give them RAIN MIX® as well!
PS: For those of you feeling nostalgic and in need to recreate our 3-MIX, our 'secret' family recipe of 3-MIX was as follows:
- 80 litres of bark
- 1 kilo of charcoal
- 150 grams of sphagnum moss
- 200 grams of seaweed lime
(most of these ingredients can be bought in our webshop)
Shipments
Due to the cold weather all plant shipments are suspended for the time being.
We do have a habit of including a 72-hour heat pack free of charge during colder weather when needed, but with the current low temperatures we do hope you understand that delaying shipment is the best option for the wellbeing of your plants.
According to the Belgian meteorological service it would seem that nighttime temperatures will remain below 0° C for the next 2 weeks.
Shipments without plants containing RAIN MIX®, Orchitime® or other potting materials can of course be sent without problems!
